Tomorrow is my stent removal - during the transpant a small plastic tube is placed between the new kidney and the bladder to help the ureter connection heal. The tube has a curve on both ends so it does not fall out.
A Cystoscopy is used to observe the bladder and also to remove the stent. A topical anesthetic is inserted into the urethrea to numb the area. (worse for men!) The cystoscope is then passed through the urethra into the bladder. A solution is inserted to expand the bladder so they can see better. Then the stent is grasped with a tiny instrument and comes out as they take the scope out. Apparently there is some 'mild' discomfort and a feeling of fullness as this is happening. Then for the next couple of days you bleed and have to drink lots of fluids to help wtih that and the irriatation of the bladder lining. I am glad to get the stent out.
